In 1988, Dr. Roberto Rumbaut was the first surgeon to perform the laparoscopic gastric bypass procedure on a patient in Mexico. Today, as a member of the prestigious “Obesity Surgery Center” in Tijuana, Mexico, Dr. Roberto Rumbaut has performed in total over 8,000 surgeries and has accumulated over 21 years of medical expertise and experience. Dr. Roberto Rumbaut obtained his medical degree from the School of Medicine Ignacio A. Santos, ITESM Monterrey, Mexico in 1988, graduating with honors. Dr. Roberto Rumbaut went on to complete his general surgery residency at the Hospital San José. ITESM Monterrey, Mexico from 1988-1993. He was named Chief Resident in General Surgery in 1993. The Mexican Association of General Surgery certifies dr. Rumbaut and in 1994 specialized in bariatric procedures. Dr. Rumbaut received his training in laparoscopic bariatric surgery on adjustable gastric banding from the world-renowned Dr. Franco Favretti at the University of Padova in Italy. Since then, Dr. Roberto Rumbaut has become the first surgeon in Mexico to use the Da Vinci or Robotic surgical method and the only doctor in Mexico to perform robotic-assisted Lapband surgery and robotic-assisted Gastric bypass surgery, both cutting edge techniques at the forefront of medicine.
